Krishan Kant Paul Biography

Krishan Kant Paul is an administrator who currently serves as the 6th Governor of Uttarakhand since January 2015. A former officer of the Indian Police Service, he was Commissioner of Police, Delhi from February 2004 to July 2007. After his retirement he has served as the governor of four Indian states. He was appointed as Governor of Meghalaya on 1 July 2013, a post he held till 6 January 2015. He was also given the additional charge as Governor of Manipur during 16 September 2014 – 15 May 2015, and also Mizoram. He is also known as K. K. Paul.

 

K. K. Paul hails from Punjab. He was born on 6 February 1948. He completed his Master of Science degree from Punjab University, Chandigarh, followed by his Ph. D thesis in fluorine chemistry, which resulted in 15 research publications of a technical nature. He conducted research work in chemistry and has published over 20 papers. He joined Indian Police Service in 1970. He was allocated to the AGMUT cadre and was first posted on Andaman and Nicobar Islands. After returning to India, he was posted at Arunachal Pradesh Police, serving as chief. He joined as Commissioner of Delhi Police from February 2004.

 

During his service with Delhi Police, he is best known for cracking the match fixing of then South African cricket team captain, Hansie Cronje. He closely worked with IB and RAW, till his retirement from government service in 2007. Then Paul became a member of the Union Public Service Commission, New Delhi, a position he held till 2013, before he was appointed as Governor of Meghalaya in July, same year.
