Kishori Sinha Biography

Kishori Sinha is a prominent politician from Bihar. Belonged to a famous political family, she is the wife of prominent politician and CM from Bihar, Satyendra Narayan Sinha, and the daughter-in-law of Dr. Anugrah Narayan Sinha, an Indian statesman who served as the first Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister of Bihar. Both her son Nikhil Kumar and daughter-in-law Shyama Singh are also prominent Congress leaders and served as parliamentarians. Nikhil Kumar is a former IPS officer who has served as the governor of Mizhoram and Kerala too. Kishori is a 2-time MP from Vaishali constituency of Bihar.

She was born in Sitamarhi, Bihar on 29 March 1925. She was born into a political influential family. Her father Rameshwar Prasad Sinha was a social worker, freedom fighter and a parliamentarian of first Lok Sabha. He also served as Member of the Legislative Assembly of Bihar., and known for his orator skills. Kishori’s schooling was completed from Muzzafurpur, and she took graduation from Patna Women's college. She got married into a prominent political family of Bihar. She married Satyendra Narayan Sinha and she too joined active politics. She was an agriculturalist and previously associated with Janata Party.

She contested Lok Sabha elections for the first time in 1980 from Vaishali constituency and got elected. She represented Indian National Congress. She was the first woman politician to be elected to Lok Sabha from Vaishali. She repeated her success in 1984 when she got re-elected from same constituency. Her husband passed away in 2006 and now her son, a former IPS officer and daughter-in-law are active in politics. She is now 91 years old and has retired from active politics. Kishori has formerly served as the Chairman of Bharatiya Grameen Mahila Sangh.
