Kiritkumar Mansukhlal Acharya Biography

Kiritkumar Mansukhlal Acharya is an Indian physician and dermatologist, best known for his services for the eradication of leprosy. Popularly known as K. M. Acharya, he hails from Saurashtra, Gujarat. He has also served as a doctor & professor at M. P. Shah Medical College, Jamnagar. He served as the Professor and the Head of the Department of skin, sexually transmitted diseases and leprosy in the medical college. The doctor believes that he has only done his duty by treating leprosy patients, for which he was honoured with Padma awards.

 

Currently he is retired from Jamnanagar Medical College and dedicates his time towards social service to eradicate leprosy. He runs Mahatma Gandhi Leprosy Society now. He was honoured with Padma Shri by government of India in 2014 for her overall contributions to medicine. He was one among the 7 Gujaratis who received Padma awards the same year, and he received the award at the age of 64.

 

Kiritkumar Mansukhlal Acharya hails from Gujarat. He got inspiration to work for the poor and needy from his father, who was a Gandhian. K. M. Acharya too is a follower of Gandhian principles and currently runs a Leprosy Society in his name. He just wants to continue the social work, which Mahatma Gandhi has started, and left unfinished.

 

During his active years of professional career, he was mostly associated with M. P. Shah Medical College, Jamnagar, where he practiced as a doctor and taught numerous students as well. He retired as head of the department of Skin, STD and leprosy from the medical college.
