Kireet Khurana Biography

Kireet Khurana is an Indian film maker associated with animated films. Apart from animated movies, he has also been associated with adverting world who has made more than 400 ad films. He is the founder head of Climb Media and its animation-wing 2nz Animation Company. He is best known for the Bollywood animated film - "Toonpur Ka Superhero" starring Ajay Devgan and Kajol, which includes many animated characters as well. This movie is credited to India's first live-action and 3D animation combined film. He is a recipient of numerous awards including National award for his works. He has directed 12 short films, apart from animation series and Public Service films like, Rights From The Heart, Adventures of Chhota Birbal and Laadli'.

 

He is the son of the man who brought animation to India, Bhimsain Khurana. Bhimsain brought animation to India with, 'Ek Chidiya Anek Chidiya' in the 1970s which was aired on Doordarshan. Bhimsain Khurana is also a recipient of 16 National awards and has directed Bollywood movies in the 1970s - Gharaonda and Doooriyan. Thus Kireet, born in 1967 was exposed to the world of movies and animated films quite at a young age. He acted as a child artist in his father’s movie – Doooriyan. He received good encouragement from none other than his father. In 1994 he graduated from animation filmmaking from Sheridan College, Canada.

 

Kireet has won 5 President's National Awards, 3 international awards and an assortment of 20 awards for his short films. He won his first National award in 1995 for the animation film “Mahagiri”. He animation-live action technique for a song in Mandira Bedi starrer – Shaadi ke ladoo, the first one of this type in Indian movies.
