Kiran Ramsay Biography

Kiran Ramsay is a producer, sound designer and director of Bollywood films since 1970s. He is a member of Ramsay Brothers group – the seven Ramsay brothers who made many horror thrillers since 1970s. They produced and directed the movies, and the films were credited as Ramsay brothers. Kumar Ramsay, Shyam Ramsay, Tulsi Ramsay, Arjun Ramsay, Gangu Ramsay and Kesu Ramsay are his rest 6 brothers. Their movies, predominantly in the era of 1980s - Hotel, Purana Mandir, Tahkhana, Veerana, Bandh Darwaza etc received a cult status over the years. His brother Keshu Ramsay has made 13 movies with Akshay Kumar in the lead, in the 1990s and later. He has been associated with Keshu in many of these films in sound department.

He was born to F.U. Ramsay. His family was originally the Ramsinghanis, who ran electronics shops in Karachi and Lahore. They came to India and settled here after partition. The family soon after reaching India after partition set up an electronics shop at Lamington Road. But very soon they got lured by the magic of cinema. They couldn’t get success with family dramas. With 1970s, they moved to horror genre, producing slow budget B-grade films, and finally succeeded. A team of 7 brothers pioneering in horror filmmaking in the 1980s, and now regarded as the top filmmakers of this genre.

Ramsay brothers have made approximately 32 films, and all belonging to horror category. They were low budget films with poor special effects and bad makeup, yet were well received by audience of 1980s. The siblings worked together as producers, directors and editors. In the 1990s and later, he produced movies like 2001: Do Hazaar Ek and Good Luck! As an independent director, he directed two movies - Aakhri Cheekh and Shaitani Ilaaka. He has also worked in sound department as sound engineer, sound designer and audiographer.
