Khaleel Ahmed Biography

Khaleel Ahmed is an Indian cricketer who has played in IPL games, and currently a member of national team. He was selected for India’s One Day International squad for the 2018 Asia Cup in September 2018, and he made his ODI debut for India against Hong Kong on 18 September 2018. He is associated with IPL games since 2016, and has been a part of Rajasthan, Delhi Daredevils and Sunrisers Hyderabad in three different seasons. He is a Left-arm fast-medium bowler, and occasionally a Right-hand batsman. He is known for his pace and ability to rise off a length. Rahul Dravid is his mentor.

His full name is Khaleel Khursheed Ahmed. He was born on 5 December 1997 in Tonk, Rajasthan. He made his Twenty20 debut for Rajasthan with 2016–17 Inter State Twenty-20 Tournament in 2017, and has also played in 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup before. He made his first-class debut for Rajasthan in 2017–18 Ranji Trophy in the month of October, but his performance was not up to the mark. But he made a tremendous comeback through Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament. When his name was included in the ODI squad for 2018 Asia Cup, the inclusion of an uncapped player created a lot of buzz. The selectors ignored the likes of Jaydev Unadkat and Barinder Sran to choose this 20-year old Rajasthani player as a team member.

Khaleel Ahmed dreamt to become a cricketer since young. But he faced initial resistance from his parents. Khaleel managed to reach the big leagues at an early age, and remained in spotlight. During the Tri-Nation Under-19s tournament held at Colombo, he picked 12 wickets in three innings, including a 3/29 in the final against Sri Lanka. He was picked for U19 World Cup in 2016 and coached by Rahul Dravid. The left-arm seamer played his regular games but only managed to take 3 scalps in 6 matches.

Delhi Daredevils brought him for Rs 10 lakh in the 2016 IPL auction. Though he couldn’t play any matches, he received technical advice from pacer and then captain Zaheer Khan. Khaleel has taken 28 wickets in the 17 List-A matches he has played. He had an unimpressive stint in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy. But his performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament earned him a space in Indian national team. In the ten T20 matches he played, the young bowler took 17 wickets at an economy rate of 6.76. He also took two wickets against champions Delhi in the finals.
