Keshav Prasad Maurya Biography

Keshav Prasad Maurya is a leading politician from Uttar Pradesh associated with regional politics. He represents Bharatiya Janata Party and currently a cabinet minister in the ministry formed by Yogi Adityanath in 2017. He is the Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh state, and holds some of the elite portfolios in state ministry such as Minister of Public Works Department, Food Processing, Public Enterprises and Entertainment Tax. He was serving as Parliamentarian in Modi’s government representing Phulpur constituency since 2014, when he was appointed as Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He always kept a low profile in his political career.

 

Like India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he too was a tea seller at his father's stall in his native village near Siratu town of Uttar Pradesh. He was born in 1969, in Sirathu in Kausambhi district; Shyam Lal Maurya and Dhanpati Devi Maurya are his parents. Maurya sold tea and newspapers during his childhood. He completed his graduation, and doing business too, apart from his social life. The family owns a petrol pump, and also owns Kamdhenu Logistics private limited, currently co-owned by his son.

 

His association with politics began at a young age, when he was a member of RSS and the VHP-Bajrang Dal. He owns a pro-Hindutva image and is associated with gauraksha movement and Ram Janmabhoomi movement. He contested state assembly elections thrice in 2002, 2007 and 2012. He was serving as sitting MLA from Sirathu assembly constituency since 2012, when he contested Lok Sabha elections in 2014. He was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on March 18, 2017, and holding the power of some portfolios as well.
