Kavitha Krishnamurthy Biography

Kavitha Krishnamurthy was born in a Tamil Iyyer family and music was in her veins. Her real name is Sarada Krishnamoorthy. During the early phase of her career, she struggled a lot acting as a dubbing artist and singing for jingles. But during the middle 90’s with the success music and her first Film fare awards for 1942 A love story, she didn’t turned back. She had sung a few memorable songs for Sridevi in Mr.India. As film fare was not announced in 1988, she lost the golden chance of winning an award in the female singer category and she had to wait another 6 years to win it last, for R.D.Burman’s last composition 1942 A love story.

She worked with almost all music directors of 90’s – Lakshmikanth Pyarelal, R.D.Burman, Ismail Durbar, Jatin Lalit, Nadeem Shravan. A.R.Rehman and Anu Malik. Alka Yagnik was the strong contender and very often Alka Yagnik – Kavitha Krishnamurthy are compared to Lata Mangeshkar- Asha Bhonsle  deo, the queens who have reigned the musical industry of Bollywood. She is a trained classical singer. Her god gifted voice has given a lot of devotional songs like Venkatesha Suprabhatam, Shiva Shlokas, Sai ka Vardaan and Meera ka Ram. She has sung a few pop albums too. She has sung in almost all Indian languages. She has sung a few songs for Malayalam of which ‘Udayaarkka Kiranangal’ pictured on Uma is a melodious number.  Surprisingly, its music was composed by her husband.

After 1942 A love story of R.D.Burman’s composition, the music director who has given a few great songs is none other than Ismail Darbar. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas are those two movies that proved to be the milestones of both Aiswarya Rai and Kavitha’s career. Both these movies were directed by Sanjay Leela Bansali. She has rendered her godly voice for Sanjay Leela Bansali’s debu movie Khamoshi – The musical too. Yeh dil sun raha hai and Aaj mein oopar are still remembered  for the melodious tunes and voice.

Her most popular songs other than those movies mentioned include Har Karam from Karma, Tu hi re of Bombay, Tum se milkar na jaane kyon and many more. Now she is doing a music institute at Bangalore along with her husband L.Subramaniyam, a famous violist.
