Kavita Seth Biography

Kavita Seth is a playback singer of Bollywood movies. She is a performer of Ghazals and Sufi music as well. For Bollywood music fans, she is most popular for the song ‘Goonja sa hai koi ikthara’ of Wake up Sid, for which she won her first Filmfare awards in 2011. This popular song of Ranbir Kapoor-Konkana Sen starrer movie has also won millions of music fans’ hearts and Star screen awards. She is specialized in Sufi, yet she sings classical as well as folk.  

 

Kavita Seth was born in Baireley of Uthar Pradesh in the year 1970. She holds a post graduation degree for music from Gandarva Mahavidyalaya. She started singing for AIR and Doordarshan after she settled in Delhi post her marriage. Then she slowly started public shows and live concerts. She has performed live in many foreign countries including London, Birmingham, Oslo, Scotland, Berlin and Stockholm. She debut Bollywood music with Satish Kausik’s movie Vaada in 2005. She sang the song ‘Zindagi ko maula’ for Amisha Patel Zayed Khan starrer romantic movie. In 2006 she sang the song ‘Mujhe mat roko’ of Gangster in Pritam’s music for Kangana Ranaut and Shinney Ahuja. The song was well noticed. Yet she didn’t get big breaks in Bollywood, she was concentrated in her live concerts too. In between, she released a series of successful sufi albums – Hasrat, Sufiana, Woh ek lamha and Dil-e- Naadan.  

 

In 2009, she composed three songs for the movie ‘Yeh mera India’. But the songs went unnoticed. In 2010, she got her big break through in playback singing. She was given the opportunity to sing the song ‘Ik tara’ for Karan Johar movie, composed by Amit Trivedi. Surprisingly Amit Trivedi composed only one song for the movie and rest were composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and most interesting fact is that, the single song composed by Amit Trivedi and sung by Kavitha Seth became more popular than the rest songs and the movie became successful too. Along with Filmfare and Star screen awards, she won International Indian film academy awards, Stardust award and Global music award for this single song. This song was featured as the song of the year and won many awards in this category too.

 

After that, her most popular song is ‘Suno re bandu’ of John Abhraham, Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone starrer movie Cocktail for which she won Bif entertainment television awards and a Filmfare nomination.
