Kaushik Ghatak Biography

Kaushik Ghatak is a well-established episode director and art director of television, best known for the popular soap Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. He directed the first 120 episodes of this longest television series on Indian television. Associated with Balaji Telefilms and Cinevistaas Limited during the initial phase of his career, he has directed the first few episodes of many popular television series like Ssshhhh...Koi Hai, Sanskriti, Kavita and re-launch episodes of Shagun. He has also done the show set up of many popular series like Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara, Pyaar Ke Do Naam: Ek Raadha, Ek Shyaam, Saathiya – Pyar Ka Naya Ehsaas etc. He also directed the concluding episodes of some soaps like Sanjivani, Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki, Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai etc.

Apart from Balaji Telefilms and Cinevistaas Limited, he is associated with many television series of Rajshri Productions. In 2007 he made his Bollywood entry through ‘Ek Vivaah... Aisa Bhi’ starring Sonu Sood and Isha Koppikar. The movie was produced by Rajshri productions and remake of their classic hit – Tapasya starring Rakhi Gulzar. His second Bollywood release - Samrat & Co released in 2014 was panned by critics and was a disaster.

He was born in Katwa, West Bengal in 1971. He is a graduate from Asian Academy of Film & Television, Noida. After studies he joined the industry as the assistant to Anurag Basu and worked under him for several television serials. Ghatak also assisted many directors like Partho Mitra for ad films, television shows and commercials before making his television debut as an independent director through Bengali serial Amra Povashi. It was followed by Saas bhi kabhi bahu thi, which proved to be his career break. He directed the first 120 episodes of this family drama and played a significant role in popularizing soaps among Indian television viewers.
