Kasinadhuni Nageswararao Biography

Kasinadhuni Nageswararao, also known as Nageswara Rao Pantulu was a freedom fighter, journalist, entrepreneur and politician from Andhra Pradesh. A staunch supporter of Khaddar movement, he also participated in civil disobedience movement through Salt Satyagraha. He was one of the founders of Andhra movement, which demanded a separate state for Telugu speaking people, from Madras Presidency. He was a journalist and publisher who started a publishing house called Andhra Grandha Mala. He also played a significant role in initiating more than 120 libraries across Andhra Pradesh. He also served as the president of the Andhra State Congress Committee for four terms between 1924 and 1934. He died on 11 April 1938. He was the inventor of Amrutanjan pain balm and successfully established Amrutanjan Limited also.

 

He was born in Yelakurru village of Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh in the year 1867. He completed his schooling from his native place followed by Machilipatnam. Later he graduated from Madras Christian College in 1891. It was after reading articles of Kandukuri Veeresalingam he plunged into the freedom struggle movement. He read those articles published in Vivekavardhini journal. He also had a brief stint in business, though he later dedicated his full life for social service. He also tried an apothecary business in Kolkata and later did office job in Mumbai.

 

However he succeeded as an entrepreneur and businessman after establishing Amrutanjan Limited in 1893. The invention of the popular pain balm Amrutanjan made him a rich businessman. Very soon it became a very popular medicine among Indians. Since the year 1907 he got actively involved with politics, journalism, social work and freedom struggle movement. He started Andhra Patrika in Mumbai in 1909 and later shifted it to Delhi. S. Sambhu Prasad is his nephew.
