Kanu Behl Biography

Kanu Behl is a critically acclaimed film director and screenwriter. He is the son of great theater and television personalities, Lalit Behl and Navnindra Behl, known for their massive contributions to the field of Indian theatre as stage directors, actors and writers. Both his parents are known for their television appearances as well. Kanu Behl was born on 13 June 1980 at Kapurthala, Punjab. He has also written and directed one short film - Three Blind Me and has scripted the controversial Bollywood movie - Love, Sex Aur Dhokha, the first Indian film to be shot entirely on DigiCam. The screenplay was written by Behl and its director Dibakar Banerjee.

He was born in a family of Kapurthala, Punjab belonging to artists. Both his parents, Lalit Behl and Navnindra Behl were theatre and television personalities. His mother is the first child of dramatist and theatre personality Kapur Singh Ghumman. Thus he was brought up in a theater atmosphere. His childhood days were spent at Patiala, Punjab before moving to Delhi in 1990. He completed his schooling at Apeejay School, Noida. Later he completed graduation in Business from Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, Delhi University. In 2003, he joined the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute and took PG diploma in cinema. While he was a diploma student, his documentary 'An Actor Prepares' found an entry in competition at Cinema du Reel 2007.

After the diploma course, he started making documentary films for different organizations. He worked with Dibakar Banerjee for Bollywood movie, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! as an Assistant director. Thus he was offered a role to co-write the script of Love Sex aur Dhokha. He has also worked as a lyricist for both these movies. At present he is working on his first independent feature film – Titli.
