Kanakalatha Biography

Kanakalatha is a well-known film and television actress of Malayalam. She portrays character roles for both. She acted in more than 300 Malayalam films and she is mostly active in television and has appeared in more than 400 Malayalam serials up-to-date.

She was born in a poor family in Ochira, Kollam. She was born as the youngest of 5 siblings. She had a bad childhood when she has to spend many days in hunger. Her father died at a young age and the whole responsibility of the family was on the shoulder of her elder brother, the only boy of the family. Her marriage life was also a fortune and she ended her 16 year length marriage in a divorce. She was most interested in sports than studies during her school days and her childhood days were spent at Kollam. She was an athlete and state level champion in high jump and long jump. But unexpected injury brought an end to her school life and sports career.

Then she got fascinated to movies and she gave its full credits to her mother who regularly used to take her to theatre halls to watch movies during Onam season. When an arts club was in search for their heroine, she joined theatre at the age of 14 and she received positive nod from family members as well. The club secretary, the veteran director Harikumar introduced her to director P. A. Bakker and it was the turning point of her career. She made her film debut as the heroine of Unarthupaattu. But the movie never got released. Chillu was her first release and she played a supporting role in the movie, marking her film debut.
