Kamini Kadam Biography

Kamini Kadam was an Indian actress who acted in Bollywood and Marathi movies in the 1950s and 1960s. She made her Bollywood debut with Talaq in 1958 opposite Jubilee kumar, Rajendra Kumar. She has already made her film debut through Marathi movie, Yere Maazya Magalya in 1955 under the screen name Smita and acted in a few Marathi films as well. Santan (1959), School Master (1959) and Sapne Suhane (1961) are her noted Bollywood movies. She passed away in Pune on 20th June, 2000 at the age of 68.

 

Her real name was Manik Kadam, born in Mumbai of British India in August 1933. She made her debut in Marathi films under the screen name of Smita in 1955 in "Yere Maazya Magalya". The movie was directed by Mahesh kaul and she shared the screen space with Lal Bahadur, Rajendra Kumar, Sajjan, Radhakrishan, Ashwini, Yashodhara Katju etc. Then she played title roles in a few Marathi movies before she completely switched on to Hindi movies. Talaq in 1958 directed by Jyoti Swaroop marked her film debut and she stayed in the Hindi film industry for a short period.

 

In her debut Hindi movie, she starred with Rajendra Kumar, Nazir Hussain and Rita Roy. In her second movie too, she worked with Rajendra Kumar. The movie was titled – Maa Baap. The movie also starred Bipin Gupta, Anwar, Kumar, Naaz, Kuldip Kaur, Leela Misra, Pran and Leela Chitnis in pivot roles. After appearing in a few more movies, she set good bye to film industry in the early 1960s.
