Kamala Devi Biography

Kamala Devi is an Indian actress who worked in Black & White classic films and early American television shows. Her father was of Indian descend while her mother was a British. She is best known for her roles in the 1960s opposite her then-husband, Chuck Connors. The couple parted later. She later married twice and her third husband died in 2008, three years after their marriage in 2005. She mostly featured in Hindi films, and was seen in Bollywood films like Aas Ka Panchi in the 1950s. She also appeared in a few American sitcoms in the 1950s.

 

Kamala devi was born on October 8, 1933 in Bombay, Bombay Presidency in British India. Kamala's mother Elizabeth was of English-Welsh descent. Her father, Chandumal Amesur was of Indian origin, who practised medicine. He was a surgeon specialized in ENT. Kamala was brought up in India, and she remained an Indian citizen till 1966. As a film actress, Kamala marked her acting debut with Harry Black in 1958 in a supporting role. It was a British film adaptation of the novel Harry Black by David Walker, released by 20th Century Fox. Indian actor I. S. Johar also featured in the film.

 

She has been regular in films throughout 1960s and some of her English films/TV serials include - Tales of the Vikings, Geronimo, The Rogues, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., My Three Sons, The Brass Bottle, Arrest and Trial, Cowboy in Africa, The Rat Patrol, I Spy etc. She is best known for her works with then husband, Chuck Connors. They got married in 1963 and parted in 1972 after 9 years. Kamala Devi became a US citizen in 1966 after she married Chuck Connors. Later she married Wallace Guberman and Maurie Beaumont. She didn’t have any kids from any of these marriages.
