Kamal Heer Biography

Kamal Heer is a popular Punjabi musician. He is the younger brother of Manmohan Waris and Sangtar, two noted musicians from Punjab. He has supreme command over traditional Punjabi music and quite successful with taan in live performances worldwide. He has also collaborated with his brothers for a few projects. He is married to Gurjit Kaur Birring. His first album is Kamli released in 2000, followed by Masti-Kanthay Vala (2002), Masti 2 (2003), Masti 3 (2006), Chan Jiha Gabhru (2007) and Jinday Ni Jinday (2009). He has also done a few compilation albums like Shaunki Mela 2003-Surrey Live, Punjabi Virsa 2004-Wonderland Live, Punjabi Virsa 2006-Toronto Live, Moti Chun Ke, Masti hits and Punjabi Virsa 2005-London Live.

 

Kamal’s full name is Kamaljeet Singh Heer and he was born on January 23, 1973 in Halluwal, Punjab. He learned music from Ustaad Jaswant Singh Bhanwra. His family moved to Canada in 1990. He along with his older brother Sangtar started composing music. In 1993 they composed music for their brother, Manmohan Waris's album, Gaairan Naal Penghan Jhotdiye which became an instant hit. Kamal stayed as a composer till 1999 before he moved on.

 

His first album was released in 2000 titled Kamli. It was a moderate hit. But his second album, Masti-Kanthay Vala released two years later became a huge hit. Kanthay Vala" was its chartbuster song. In 2003, he released his third album Masti 2 which included many hit songs like - "Kinnu Yaad Kar Kar Hasdi", "Nachne Nu Kare Mera Ji", "Hick Da Taveet" and "Ishq Ne Kamle Karte". Kamal became a star and he released the album on a live concert conducted at Toronto, ‘Punjabi Virsa 2004-Toronto Live’ at Toronto. His last album, Jinday Ni Jinday was released in 2009 and the bestseller up to date.
