Kallu Chidambaram Biography

Kallu Chidambaram was a noted comedian of Telugu film industry. An accomplished theatre artist, he made his film debut in 1988 Telugu language film, Kallu, and since then ‘Kallu’ tag got added to his name. He was frequently associated with film directors like E. V. V. Satyanarayana, S. V. Krishna Reddy, and Relangi Narasimha Rao, who regularly gave him character roles and wrote scripts keeping his role in mind. He is the founder of Sakala Kalakalrula Samakhya in 2008, which aims to organize monthly programs for artists. He spent more than 25 years in the film industry and Chanti, Ammoru, Govinda Govinda and Pelli Pandiri are among his noted roles.

He was born in Akkayapalem, Visakhapatnam in 10 October 1945. His real name is Kolluru Chidambaram. He was quite active in theater since his younger days. He worked as Assistant Engineer in Visakhapatnam Port Trust. He mostly acted in movies shot at his hometown, where he was working as well. Telugu language film, Kallu in 1988 was his debut film. The role became an instant hit, earning him the tag – Kallu. Kallu was a neo realistic film based on the lives of blind people. The movie was scripted by Gollapudi Maruti Rao and directed by M. V. Raghu, showcased at the Indian panorama section of the International Film Festival of India and received many awards.

Later he acted in many movies as a comic actor and continued his job as Assistant Engineer in Visakhapatnam till he retired. Later he got fully involved in entertainment field. In 1995, the Telugu socio-fantasy film Ammoru is another noted role played by Chidambaram. The role earned him critical acclaim. He passed away on 18 October 2015 aged 70 and was survived by his wife and four children.
