Kaikala Satyanarayana Biography

Kaikala Satyanarayana is a famous personality associated with Telugu cinema, who is the recipient of the 2011 Raghupathi Venkaiah Award for lifetime achievement in Telugu cinema. He is an actor, producer and director who has served as a jury member of National Film Awards – 2012. In 1994, his film Bangaru Kutumbam bagged Nandi Award for Best Feature Film. NTR Vignan Trust Award, Natasekhara by NGO in Anantapur and Kalaprapurna by Kavali Cultural Association are other major honours received by him. He produced 1994 movie, Raktha Charithra. He was noticed for his resemblance to N.T. Rama Rao during his younger days and played his dupe for many movies.

Kaikala Satyanarayana was born in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. He completed primary education in Gudlavalleru and intermediate education in Vijayawada. Then he completed graduation from Gudivada College. Sipayi Koothuru in 1959 marked his film debut. He was spotted by D. L. Narayana who gave him the first film role. One year later he got married to Nageswaramma. Though the debut film didn’t fare well at box office, he was noticed for his striking resemblance with N.T. Rama Rao, the leading Telugu actor, which gave him several roles as dupe for NTR. Later NTR gave him the role of a prince for his film, Apoorva Sahasra Siraccheda Chintamani in 1960.

He played negative role for the first time for the movie, Kanaka Durga Pooja Mahima. Since then he became quite successful playing villain roles onscreen. He set up his own production company, Rama Films under which he released a few movies. In 1996, he had a short stint in politics as well winning Lok Sabha elections from Machilipatnam constituency, as a TDP candidate.
