Kadaru Nagabhushanam Biography

Kadaru Nagabhushanam, also known as K. B. Nagabhushanam was a famous director and producer of Tamil and Telugu movies during the earliest phase of south Indian cinema. He was active during the period, 1940s to 1960s. He was married to one of the legendary actresses during that period, Pasupuleti Kannamba. Together they have worked in many movies as director- actress and later they started a production company, started "Raja Rajeswari Films" which released about 30 movies. Sumati, Padhuka Pattabhishekam, Saudamani, Peda Raitu, Lakshmi, Sri Krishna Tulabharam, Sati Sakkubhai, Sati Anasuya and Navajeevanam were their noted movies as film producers. Following her death in 1964 at the age of 51, he was fully broken down. He sold his properties and had to live in poor condition in Chennai till he died in 1976.  She has acted in Kadaru directed movies like Harischandra (debut film), Paduka Pattabhishekam (1945) and Navajeevanam.

 

He was born in the year 1902. In 1941, he entered film industry as a producer. The movie was Talli Prema released in 1941. His directorial debut film was Sumati, which was a commercial hit and appreciated by women. Paduka Pattabhishekam (1945) is regarded as his magnum opus with C. S. R. Anjaneyulu, Addanki and Kannamba in lead roles. His Tamil ventures as a producer, Harischandra and Tulasi Jalandhara have been commercial hits, thus establishing him as one of the most celebrated film makers of the time.

 

His Telugu movie, Peda Rytu is regarded as a milestone movie which gives a social message of farmers. After his marriage with Pasupuleti Kannamba, they started Rajarajeshwari Films and produced many mythological films. Kannamba played main lead in many of his movies.  Their social film Navajeevanam was chosen as the best feature film by Madras state. But after the death of Kannamba, everything turned upside down. He was totally broken and sold off his properties. His last days were spent in a poor condition in Chennai getting help from his professional colleagues.
