Kadannappalli Ramachandran Biography

Kadannappalli Ramachandran is an Indian politician from Kerala who currently serves as Kerala State President of Congress (Secular). His party is affiliated to current ruling party of Kerala, Left Democratic Front. He has earlier served as Minister for Devaswom in the Government of Kerala. He was representing Edakkad constituency in Kannur district in KLA then. He has also stood against E. K. Nayanar in 1971 General elections when he was only a Law student, aged 26. Kadannappalli Ramachandran has served as a parliamentarian, a state MLA as well as a cabinet minister during his political journey.

Kadannappalli Ramachandran hails from Thannada, Kannur. He was born on 1 July 1944. During his early years he was associated with Indian National Congress and towards the later years, he got affiliated to LDF. He started off his political career as a student leader of KSU, a students’ wing of Indian National Congress. Kadannappally contested the Indian General Elections in 1971 as Congress Party candidate from Kasargod Lokasabha Constituency. Veteran communist leader E. K. Nayanar was his opponent when Ramachandran contested the elections as a law student aged only 26. He was student at Law Academy then, and got elected. He got re-elected from the same constituency in 1977.

Kadannappalli entered state politics in 1980, but this time he switched his party. He got elected as LDF MLA from Irikkoor constituency of Kannur district in 1980 state assembly elections. Since then he is closely associated with LDF. Currently he is associated with Congress (Secular) formed after the split in Nationalist Congress Party in Kerala. Kadannappalli is leading is minor fraction right now. He is the only MLA belonging to this party from Kerala. He is married to T. R. Saraswathi Teacher. Their only son Mithun Puthanveettil is currently associated with popular musical band of Kerala - Aviyal Band as a drummer.
