K. Srilata Biography

K. Srilata is an Indian writer of fiction. She authors poems, novels etc. She is also a translator and academic based in Chennai. Her full name is Srilata Krishnan. She is one of the noted writers from Tamil Nadu in the present generation. She published her first collection of poems titled, Seablue Child in 2000. She published her second book, Seablue Child after 11 years. Writing Octopus (2013) and Bookmarking the Oasis (2015) are her published books later. Many of her works have been featured in different forms of publications. Table for Four is her first novel, published in 2011, and it was long-listed in 2009 for the Man Asian literary prize. She has also done academic writings, editing as well as a few translation works.

 

Srilata Krishnan hails from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She was born in the year 1968 in Ranchi, present-day Jharkhand. She is currently based in Chennai and is a professor at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. She also continues with her writings, translations and researches here. This Chennai-based poet, fiction writer and translator, writes in English. Her works has been published in various publications, including Fulcrum, The Little Magazine, The Bloodaxe Anthology of Indian Poets and Penguin India’s First Proofs.

 

Unisun British Council Poetry Award (2007) and the Charles Wallace fellowship for a writing residency (2010) are among the major honours received by her. Her poem, ‘In Santa Cruz, Diagnosed Homesick’ won the first prize in the All India Poetry competition in 1998. She regularly published stories in different magazines, and a few of them include – “Mynah Hands, Flying Fingers", "Rainbow Loom Bracelet", "You Expert Woman, You", "State of Whiteness" etc.
