K. S. Eshwarappa Biography

K. S. Eshwarappa is a senior politician from the state of Karnataka associated with Bharatiya Janata Party. He served as the Deputy Chief Minister in the BJP government during 13 July 2012 – 8 May 2013 under the ministry formed by Jagadish Shettar. He is one of the prominent political figures of state of Karnataka. He is the Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council at present. During Emergency, he was arrested and detained in the Bellary Jail. After the emergency period was lifted, he got fully active in the field of politics.

 

K. S. Eshwarappa was born in Bellary, Karnataka on 10 June 1948. Shivamogga was his native place. He was born into a poor working class family where his parents worked as daily wage workers. In search of job the family moved to Shimoga. Eshwarappa too also did odd jobs to provide financial aid to the family. However his mother insisted on concentrating on to his education and studies rather than working, so that he can get a better future. His parents dreamt to get him good name and honour in the society. For the same reason he got drawn towards social work.

 

As a child, Eshwarappa was interested in sports and music. He studied at National Commerce College, Shimoga. He got drawn towards politics during his academic years and worked as an RSS worker initially. After his graduation, he started his own private business in Shimoga city. During this time he got involved with Bharatiya Jana Sangh. He got involved with active politics in the late 1970s and successfully contested state assembly elections for the first time in 1989. He registered four more times from this constituency, but losing once in 1999.
