K. Laxman Biography

Dr. K. Laxman is a well-known politician from the newly formed south Indian state Telangana. He is currently a Member of Telangana Legislative Assembly representing the constituency, Musheerabad. He serves as the President of Bharatiya Janata Party in Telangana. He has earlier served as a member of legislative assembly of Andhra Pradesh during 1999-2004. He is associated with BJP and its wing, ABVP since 1980 and has been active in politics since then. A 2-time MLA, he has lost state assembly elections three times since 1994.

Laxman hails from Hyderabad, Telangana. He was born to K. Ramulu & K. Mangamma. His early education was completed in his hometown and he later pursued higher studies from Osmania University. He holds a PhD in Geology from the same university. His association with politics began while he was doing his studies in Osmania University. He rose to prominence as a student’s leader, in association with ABVP. His association with Bharatiya Janata Party began in 1980, when the party was newly organized. His passion for public service prompted him to join active politics.

He became General Secretary of Hyderabad city in 1994 and became Hyderabad City President the following year. He served in this position for next 5 years. In 1994 he unsuccessfully contested Andhra Pradesh state assembly elections for the first time and lost to Congress candidate by a narrow margin. He contested from Musheerabad and lost to Kodanda Reddy. But he succeeded in the next state assembly elections, and turned an MLA in 1999. He won the elections by a huge margin of 18,567 votes. He completed a term of 5 years and also served as Deputy Floor Leader. He lost 2004 and 2009 elections to Congress candidates, and won it in the first Telangana state assembly elections.
