Jyotsna Srikanth Biography

Jyotsna Srikanth is a noted Carnatic musician known as a violinist. She is also a Carnatic singer who also performs in western music. In 2008, she received a Fellowship in Carnatic Music from the Trinity College of Music, London. She is a qualified doctor who later completed PG in Clinical Pathology from Bangalore Medical College and currently practises as a pathologist too. She is currently settled in London. As a violinist her style has earned appreciation as ‘amazing’. She has also worked with many south Indian music directors and has worked for more than 200 movies.

 

She was born in Bangalore to a family of Andhra Pradesh origin. She received initial training in music from her mother Ratna Srikantaiah who is a carnatic musician and teacher. She started her music lessons at the very young age of five. She received rigorous and strict training from her mother which also included performances for the festival occasions. But very soon she got attracted to Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan’s violin and she began her training under R. R. Keshavamurthy at the age of 6. She gave her first performance at the age of 9.

 

To become a complete violinist she later took lessons in western violin from Bangalore School of Music followed by lessons from noted violinist V.S. Narasimhan from Chennai. She later worked with many renowned south Indian music directors like Hamsalekha and Ilaiyaraaja. She married K.V. Srikanth Sharma and got settled in London. The couple has two children. Jyotsna Srikanth continues her music journey as a solo performer as well as an accompanist. She set up a band called Fusion Dreams, and also performs jazz and fusion music in association with many artists of international fame.
