Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia Biography

 

Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia is an active politician of Indian National Congress and current Member of Parliament elected from Guna constituency of MP. He is the Union Minister of State for the Ministry of Power. Scindia, belonging to the Royal family of Gwalior is one of the wealthiest ministers in the government of India. He is the son of famous congress leader, Madhavrao Scindia, a titular hereditary Maharajah of Gwalior. His aunts too are active in politics - Yashodhara Raje, Member of Parliament and Vasundhara Raje, the current Chief Minister of Rajasthan. He is the grandson of Vijayaraje Scindia and Jivajirao Scindia, Maharaja of Gwalior. He is also the president of the regional Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA). He is also the President of the Board of Governors of Scindia School, Gwalior founded by his grandfather, the last ruler of the Maratha princely state of Gwalior.

 

Scindia was born in Mumbai to Madhavrao Scindia and Madhavi Raje Scindia on 1 January 1971. His schooling was done at Campion School, Mumbai and The Doon School, Dehradun. He graduated in Economics from Harvard University in 1993 and received M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2001. After the death of his father in a plane crash in 2001, he entered active politics and joined Indian National Congress. At present he is one of the most powerful youth leaders from Congress Party and his name has been most recently included in the list of prospective Indian National Congress candidates for the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.

 

In 2002, he stood as candidate of Indian National Congress at Guna Constituency, from where his father has been elected frequently. Scindia was elected to the Lok Sabha in February 2002. He was re-elected in 2004 and 2009. In 2009, he was also appointed Minister of State for Commerce & Industry in the Government of India.
