Jyoti Mirdha Biography

Dr. Jyoti Mirdha is a politician belonging to Mirdha political family. She is a representative of Indian national congress. She is a former parliamentarian who got elected in general elections 2009 from Nagaur constituency. She is the granddaughter of Nathuram Mirdha, prominent politician and popular farmer leader known for many reforms supporting poor farmers. Though she won 2009 Lok Sabha elections with a margin of over 1.5 lakh votes, similar to other congress parliamentarians, she too had to face the bitter of failure in the 16^th Lok sabha elections. She is a doctor by profession who earned MBBS degree from SMS Medical College, Jaipur.

She was born in famous Mirdha political family of Rajasthan in the year 1972. She was born to Ram Prakash Mirdha and Veena Mirdha and as the granddaughter of Nathuram Mirdha. She completed M.B.B.S. from SMS Medical College, Jaipur in the year 1996. She got married in year 2000. She is married to Indiabulls Real Estate MD Narendra Gehlaut and the couple has one son. As she belonged to a traditional political family, she too stepped into the shoes of her ancestors. She was elected to 15th Lok Sabha and served as a member of Committee on Health and Family Welfare and Committee on Empowerment of Women. She also served as a Committee on Agriculture in 2012.

In the Parliament she raised the issue of tractor owners across the country. She inherited the stream of politics from her family. She attributes the trend of passing the baton to daughters in Jat families. Her uncle Richpal Singh Mirdha is a 4-term MLA from the state.
