Jyoti Bhatt Biography 
Jyoti Bhatt is a well-known painter and photographer from Gujarat. He is best known for his modernist work in painting and printmaking. He documented rural Indian culture through his photographs, which earned him a lot of praises. He has exhibited his works since 1960s and has won many prizes including National Award 1963, at the Annual Art Exhibitions of Lalita Kala Akademi, New Delhi. He was honoured with Life Time Achievement Award by Gujarat State government. He received Senior Artist Award, All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society, New Delhi in 2000 and many more honours. He is also a recipient of Bronze Medal, at Nikon world Photo Contest held in Japan. He was given a Hon. Doctorate by Rabindra Bharati University in 2004.
Jyotindra Manshankar Bhatt, better known as Jyoti Bhatt was born on 12 March 1934 in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. He had a cubist influence in his early work. Later he moved towards light hearted and colourful Pop art with influences from traditional Indian folk designs which are vibrant and colourful. Water colors and oils – he has worked on various mediums for his canvas works. Yet it’s through his distinct printmaking which made him a celebrated artist of present times. He studied at Pratt Institute at Brooklyn in New York, and later returned to Baroda in 1966. He also worked at Faculty of Fine Arts in Baroda, and is one among the artists belonging to "The Baroda School" of Indian art.
His stint to photography began in the 1960s, when was asked to take photographs of Gujarati folk art for a seminar work. But later it turned his true passion, and he got drawn towards this art form as well. He focussed on disappearing rural art of Gujarat, which made him popular. He served as a teacher at the M.S.U. Faculty of Fine Arts for a long time.
