Joya Ahsan Biography

Joya Ahsan is a popular and successful Bangladeshi actress who appears in Bengali films as well. One of the most talented actresses of present times, she won National Film Award of Bangladesh twice for the movies - Guerrilla and Chorabali. She played female lead of Bengali director Arindam Sil’s celebrated Bengali film, Aborto released in 2013. The movie marked the directorial debut of Arindam, and it was a tribute to Satyajit Ray. It was Joya’s first Indian film too. Later she acted in Indian films, Ekti Bangali Bhooter Goppo and Rajkahini both released in 2015, and now a series of movies are in the pipeline. Joya is quite active in the Bangladeshi movies since early 2010s.

She was born on 1 July 1972. She is a trained Rabindra Sangeet singer, and she started her acting career through television. She was first seen in a tele drama, Panchami. She also modeled for a while in the early 1990s. After studies she worked with newspaper company, Bhorer Kagoj for a while and moved back to her modelling career. She is also interested in crafting and painting. She also worked in television shows since late 1990s. She became extremely popular as a television actress in a short period and made a brief appearance for Bangladeshi film - Bachelor in 2004.

Her official entry to big screen happened a bit late. Dubshatar in 2010 marked her film debut. But the movie was a flop. But very soon she established as one of the biggest stars of Bangladeshi cinema, and also won two national awards for best actress. Guerrilla in 2011 gave her big break to her film career, and it was followed by Chorabali the following year, which gave her the second national award. Aborto in 2013 marked her successful debut in Bengali cinema, and established her as a star.
