Jothimani Biography

Jothimani is an Indian politician from the state of Tamil Nadu, and a member of Indian National Congress. She currently serves as a parliamentarian representing Karur constituency in the 17th Lok Sabha headed by Narendra Modi. She is also a social worker and writer. She has earlier served as General Secretary and Vice President of Indian Youth Congress and Tamil Nadu Youth Congress. Her full name is Jothimani Sennimalai. She was Member of Tamil Nadu Censor Board from 2006 to 2009. Apart from Tamil she is fluent in English, Malayalam and Hindi languages.

Jothimani Sennimalai was born on 9 August 1975 in Periya Thirumangalam, K.Paramathy block, Tamil Nadu. Her father Sennimalai was a farmer. She lost her father at a younger age, and later she was brought up by her mother who helped her to complete her Graduation at Sri G.V.G Visalakshi College for Women, Udumalaipet by providing financial assistance. She got into politics during her college days, and was elected as Chairman of College Students Union then. She was associated with NSS Camps in college and also other social activities. She completed Master of Arts as well as Master of Philosophy, both from Annamalai University.

She entered the field of active politics at her age of 22. Initially she was associated with Indian Youth Congress, and had close association with Rahul Gandhi, who headed this wing and promoted the youngsters to join politics. She has represented the Indian Youth Congress at international forums too. In 2011 state assembly elections, though she contested for the first time she couldn’t win. She served as the General Secretary of Indian Youth Congress during 2009–2012. Currently she serves as a member of parliament.
