Johnson Biography 
Johnson was a popular music director of Malayalam movies who has given significant contributions in 1990’s and 2000’s. He is the first music director from Malayalam film industry to won a national award and he won it for the movie Ponthanmada in 1993. He won it again one year later in 1995 for the movie Sukrutham. Though Malayalam is blessed with a lot of talented composers who has given great contributions to music during 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, Malayalam was deprived of this award till 90’s. He has won Kerala state awards 5 times for the movies – Ormakkai (1982), Vadakku nokki yenthram and Mazhavil Kavadi (1989) and Angane oru avadhi kaalathu (1999) and for back ground music of Sadayam in 1992 and Sallapam in 1996. He has given background score to numerous successful movies too. In true means he was the king of melody!
Born in a Christian family of Thrissur district, Johnson was a singer in the choir of Nellikkunnu St. Sebastian's Church, near Thrissur main town. He learnt guitar and harmonium during this time. He used to sing and play orchestra in many stage shows. He joined industry as the assistant of Devarajan. His first independent work was Aaravam. But the music of the movies Thakara (1979) and Chamaram of 1980 are still considered the golden melodies of Johnson. His tunes were simple and easy to understand that made him popular among music lovers. Janaki rendered her beautiful voice for the best song of these two movies for which she won state awards too. ‘Naada nee varum’ of Chamaram and ‘Mauname nirayum mauname’ of Thakara are those two songs. Later he used Janaki’s voice for many songs like Ponnurukum pookkalam and Aadi vaa kaatte of Koodevide and Gopike nin viral of Kaattathe kilikood.
His best works include Chamaram, Thakara, Oru katha oru nuna katha, Namukku paarkaam munthiri thoppukal, Akalangalil, My dear muthachan, Aadharam, Pavakooth, Isabella, Koodevide, Paalangal, Yathrakaarude shreddhakku, Kudumba sametham, Manathe vellitheru, Savitham, Parannu parannu parannu, Pon mutta idunna thaaravu, Photographer, Pakshe, Malootty, Mahanagaram, Thalayana manthram, Ee puzhayum kadannu, Parinayam, Ente upasana, Thooval Kottaram, kalyana sauganthikam and Sallapam.
Other notable works of Johnson with background score include Jnan Gandarvan, Manichitrathaazhu, Dhanam, Sallapam, Kaaryam nisaaram, Parinayam, Keli, Dheem tharikida thom, Ente Hridayathinte udama, Karunyam, Bharatham, Chitram, Arayannangalude veedu, Kamala dalam, Kaikudanna Nilavu, Koodum thedi, Kunjaatta kilikal, Amaram, Mukundetta sumitra vilikkunnu, Uncle Bun, Thoovana thumbikal, Aarante mulla kochu mulla, Aryan, Abhimanyu, Amritham, Mayamayooram and Mizhi randilum. He died on 18th August 2011 due to heart attack at an age of 58, with many unsung melodies left!
