Jitendra Joshi Biography

Jitendra Joshi is a noted Marathi film and theatre artist, who also hosts a few shows on television. He is an electrician turned actor. Known as a versatile actor in Marathi film scene, he handles different genres of roles including hero, villain and comic as well as character roles. He is also known as a lyricist who penned the popular Marathi song - "Kombdi Palali.." composed by music duo - Ajay Atul. Marathi Paaul Padte Pudhe - is the popular talent hunt show he hosted on ZEE Marathi in the year 2011. He played the male protagonist ‘Tukaram’ in the 2012 Marathi film – Sant Tukaram. Apart from donning several roles on Marathi screen, he has also played a few character roles for Bollywood films like Pran Jaye Par Shaan Na Jaye.

 

Joshi has excelled in theatre as well as television scene. He is best known as a TV anchor than actor. In 2004, he won Best Anchor (Male) award at Aapla Alpha Awards and Best Male Compere award at Maharashtra Times Sanman Awards for his successful show as a TV anchor - Campus -A Fair War for Alpha Marathi. Ghadlay Bighadlay, Hasya Samrat, Home Minister and Marathi Paaul Padte Pudhe are some of his successful shows on Marathi television as an anchor. Apart from Marathi plays, he has also acted in one Gujarati play - Chhel Chhabilo Gujarati. Hamidabaichi Kothi, Hum To Tere Aashiq Hai, Prem Naam Hai Mera... Prem Chopra and Mukkam Post Bombilwadi are some of his noted roles in Marathi and Hindi theatre.

 

This multi-talented personality was quite active during his younger days. He did several odd jobs before taking acting as his career. He worked as a newspaper boy and also ran an electrical shop for his uncle. Basically he is an electrician. It was one of his teachers, Mr. Pardeshi who spotted him at the electrical shop and suggested to do theater. He advised Joshi that electrical shop is a wrong place for him. Though he didn’t have an exact idea of what to do next, he shifted to Pune where he happened to watch a few theater plays. Subodh Bhave and Lokesh Gupte inspired him a lot and joined Satish Tare and Sunil Tare’s group as music operator. One day, in the absence of an artist, he got opportunity to do a character and later he entered his new role as a stage actor through the play – Three Cheers and thus landed in Mumbai.
