Jeeva Shankar Biography

Jeeva Shankar is a cinematographer turned film director from Tamil film industry. He also scripts movies. As a film director, he is best known for the works of his debut film Naan, followed by Amara Kaaviyam and Yaman. In Naan and Yaman, he casted music composer & playback singer of the industry, Vijay Antony in a lead role, and both the roles were well received by public and critics alike. In fact, Jeeva Shankar launched the musician Vijay Antony as a lead actor through his movie, Naan. He also remade the same movie to Bengali language in 2015, and the movie was titled Amanush 2.

Jeeva Shankar started his career in the industry as a cinematographer in the early 2000s. However he earned success as a filmmaker than a cinematographer, after facing so much of troubles for almost a decade. As a cinematographer he marked his film debut with the Telugu film, Ammo Bomma in 2001. His second assignment, Kadhal Dot Com in 2003 marked his debut in Tamil film industry, and later he did the camera work of Ananda Thandavam in 2009.

Originally his directorial flick, Naan was launched in 2008 with a different star cast, and the movie was to be produced by Oscar Ravichandran. Following the failure of Ananda Thandavam, the producer called off the film and Jeeva Shankar had to wait a few more years to find a new producer for the film. The film was produced by Vijay Antony’s wife Fathima, and Vijay marked his acting debut too, playing an anti-hero with ease. The thriller movie received overwhelming response from viewers and critics, and was noticed for its unique plot.
