Jayshree Arora Biography

Jayshree Arora, also pronounced as Joyshree or Jayshri Arora is a film, stage and television actress, who has portrayed numerous character roles on Bollywood screen. She is also an accomplished classical dancer trained in Kathak and Manipuri dance forms. Currently she is associated with Hindi soaps. Associated with Doordarshan since mid-1980s, she played the role of Bhagwanti in the landmark series, Hum Log aired during the period - 1984–85. She is quite popular as Shah Rukh Khan's mother in Doordarshan series, Dil Dariya in 1988. She also worked in Shah Rukh Khan starrer Fauji the same year, before she took a break from acting. She played Shah Rukh’s mother once again, this time for the silver screen. The movie was Chak De! India in 2007.

 

An accomplished theater artist, she started her association with stage plays at the age of 9, as a child artist. Jayshree has played supporting roles in a few Bollywood films like Chak De! India, Drona, Mission 11 July,       Daata, Mujrim, Police Public, Zid (1994), Jai Vikraanta etc. After her break in television in the late 1980s, she has now returned with a series of shows since 2007. During this time she played a few Bollywood films also. Jhoome Jiiya Re, Mere Ghar Aayi Ek Nanhi Pari, Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke, Yahaan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli etc are some of her noted roles in her second innings as a television actress. Currently she plays the role of Resham Dadi in the popular series, Diya Aur Baati Hum.

 

During her childhood days, instead of copying heroines, she tried to imitate heroes on big screen – like Shammi Kapoor, Kishore Kumar etc. She got her first film offer at the age of 12. But her father insisted to complete her education before starting a career in movies. Since young she was interested in theatre, dance and acting and never thought of joining television. But later she received fame and recognition through television serials. She became a part of India’s first television serial – Hum Log.
