  • He completed his schooling at Jawahar Vidyalaya in Ashok Nagar, Chennai. He studied dancing under the bharatnatyam dancer Nalini Balakrishnan and performed his arangetram at the age of 12. After completing his degree in Visual communication from Loyola College, Chennai, he decided to get into the film industry.He has also undergone training in acting at the Kishore Namit Kapur Institute in Mumbai.

Jayam Ravi Biography

Jayam Ravi is an Indian film actor. He has acted in many films of Tamil language and gave some super hit movies like Santhosh Subramaniyam, Thillalangadi, Jayam, etc. It was after his successful film Jayam that he came to be called as Jayam Ravi.

 

He was born on 10th September 1980 at Chennai in Tamil Nadu in a Balija family. His father is Mohan who is the producer and editor of South Indian Cinema and his mother is Varalakshmi. He has one brother M. Raja the film director and one sister Roja, a dentist.

 

He studied at Jawahar Vidhyalaya in Ashok Nagar in Chennai and learned Bharatnatyam through Nalini Balakrishnan. His arangetram in Bharatnatyam took place at his age of 12. He completed his graduation in Visual Communication at Loyola College at Chennai. As he aspired to enter film industry, he got training in acting at the Kishore Namit Kapur Institute at Mumbai. He is also a martial arts expert. He served as assistant director to Suresh Krishna in the film Aalavandhaan in 2001.

 

His debut film was Jayam, the remake of the 2002 Telugu film and this was produced by his father and directed by his brother. He then acted in M. Kumaran Son of Mahalakshmi, the remake of the film Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi. He got positive reviews for his performance and was a huge box office hit. The film won Tamil Nadu State Special Award for Best Film.

 

He acted in the action-masala Daas in 2004 in the role of a football player. This film and the film Mazhai, the remake of Telugu film Varsham were huge box office hits. His film Idhaya Thirudan in 2006 was a failure. He acted with Trisha in the film Unakkum Enakkum in which he did the role of a happy go lucky NRI of London and this fared well at box office.

 

His other films include Velli Thirai, Santhosh Subramaniam, Dhamm Dhom, Peranmai, Ko, Engeyum Kaadhal, Aadhi Bhagavan, etc. he was nominated for Filmfare Best Tamil Actor Award and Vijay Award for Best Actor for the films Santhosh Subramaniam and Peranmai. Peranmai was his first action film.
