Jaya Bhattacharya Biography

Jaya Bhattacharya is a popular television actress. She has also done bit roles in Hindi movies like Sirf tum, Fiza, Devdas, Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi, Saathiya, Jigyaasa and Lajja. She has been active in the television industry since early 1990’s with Doordarshan and better known for supporting roles in small screen later. She has appeared in daily soaps like Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasmaan, Koshish, Banoo Main Teri Dulhann, Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai, Kahaani Hamaaray Mahaabhaarat Ki, Ambar dhaara, Virasat, Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki, Jhansi ki rani, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Karam Apnaa Apnaa and Kesar. She played the role of Goddess Lakshmi in mythological serial, Jai Hanuman of Doordarshan.

Jaya is a single child to her parents. She was born and brought up in Lucknow, UP. She did her schooling at Allahabad. She took formal training in Indian classical music and dance. Once while at school, she got an offer to dance in a Holi song for a tele film. Though she was willing, she doubted if her parents would agree to it. But later, her father himself took her to the director. She got an opportunity to act in the tele film. Thus began her career of dance and acting. Her father was interested in classical art forms than filmy stuff.

Then she got an opportunity to play the title role of Jhansi ki Rani in the play – Ek hati Manu. Her first telly serial- Neem Ka Ped was telecasted by Lucknow Doordarshan. Later it was shown in Doordarshan National. She appeared in a single shot where she got opportunity to deliver two dialogues. Slowly she began to get more offers and her career paced up. Then she got selected in the audition for Devi Chaudhrani based on a novel by Sarat Chandra. It was followed by Zameen Aasman and Ashta Bhuji.

She got an opportunity to work in Doordarshan serial, Itihaas in the late 1990’s. As she was not interested in the role, she denied the offer. But Balaji films later gave her Koshish- Ek Aasha and a dream role of Payal in the longest running soap opera, Kyunki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi. This role made Jaya a household name. She is not a celebrity who runs behind money or less significant roles. She just waits for the right role to come in. She is in a committed relationship with her boyfriend for the last eight years or so. As she is not a believer of system of marriage, she prefers to have a live in together relationship. She loves to adopt kids and want to do something for stray children.
