Javed Siddiqui Biography

Javed Siddiqui is an accomplished screenwriter, playwright and dialogue writer. He is associated with Bollywood and many legendary films like Dilwale dulhaniya lejayenge, Shatranj Ke khiladi, Raja Hindustani, Baazigar etc. He is an integral part of Bollywood and has been associated with both commercial and parallel cinema equally. He is a recipient of two Filmfare Awards, two Star Screen Awards and one BFJA Award. He received Filmfare award for best screenplay for 1993 movie Baazigar and for best dialogues for the movie - Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Surprisingly both the movies played the major role in establishing Shah Rukh Khan as the big star of Bollywood. He also received Screen awards for best screenplay for 1996 blockbuster hit – Raja Hindustani.

He was born in Rampur of UP in 1942. He started his film career as a dialogue writer in Satyajit Ray's Shatranj Ke Khiladi in 1977. He was also the co-scriptwriter of 1980 classic – Umrao Jaan. Mammo, Fiza, Zubeidaa and Tehzeeb are his highly acclaimed movies in the role of a co-scriptwriter and dialogue writer. He has been a favourite of great directors like Satyajit Ray and Shyam Benegal. He is equally popular to commercial directors like yash Chopra and Subhash ghai as well. Baazigar, Darr, Yeh Dillagi, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Raja Hindustani, Pardes, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke and Koi... Mil Gaya are some of his works in commercial stream.  He has written dialogues and screenplay for over 50 films and dozens of stage plays as well, apart from publishing a few books.

He has also worked as a journalist in Mumbai and worked for Inqilab, Khilafat apart from many English and Urdu dailies. He also wrote the script of popular television series – Bharat ek khoj. Noted television actress          Lubna Salim is his daughter and filmmaker and cameraman, Sameer Siddiqui is his son.
