Javar Seetharaman Biography

Javar Seetharaman was a noted screenwriter, producer and actor associated with Tamil cinema and Bollywood. He has also authored a few Tamil books. In 1963 he was nominated for the prestigious Filmfare Award for Best Story for the movie - Main Chup Rahungi. He wrote the story and screenplay of Bollywood blockbusters - Do Kaliyan (1968), Bhai-Bhai (1956) and Suraj (1966). He also wrote the story of Dharmendra starrer Shaadi (1962) and Dileep Kumar starrer Aadmi. He also produced and directed one Bollywood film - Paisa Ya Pyaar. Javar Seetharaman is quite popular as a Tamil actor too. In fact he got ‘Javar’ (Javert) tag after he enacted the role of Javar in 1950 Tamil film, Ezhai Padum Padu based on Les Misrrables by Victor Hugo.

His real name is N Seetharaman, a native of Tiruchirappalli of Madras Presidency. He was a lawyer by profession before he reached film scene. Apart from acting he gained attention as a notable story writer and screenwriter for both Tamil and Hindi films. He also published works like - Minnal Mazhai Mohini, Panam Pen Pasam, Kase Kadavul, Sorkkaththil puyal etc. Though a reputed author he joined film scene due to his passion to movies. He joined Gemini studios in the late 1940s. He played supporting roles onscreen and with early 1950s, he started writing screenplays.

As an actor, Miss Malini released in 1947 was his first credited role. He was seen in a supporting role in the film, followed by Ezhai Padum Padu, Marma Yogi, Panakkari, Andha Naal, Viduthalai, Chella Pillai, Veerapandiya Kattabomman, Parthiban Kanavu etc. Later he concentrated most on scripts, and got associated with Bollywood in the 1960s. He wrote the scripts and dialogues of Tamil films – Aalayamani, Pattanathil Bhootham, Anandha Jodhi, Kalathur Kannamma etc.
