Jatindramohan Tagore Biography 
Jatindramohan Tagore was a theatre personality and art patron from Bengal who lived in the 19th century. He belonged to the Pathuriaghata branch of the Tagore family. When his cousin Gnanendramohan Tagore converted to Christianity he was deprived of inheritance, and later Jatindramohan Tagore inherited the whole property of his uncle, Prasanna Coomar Tagore, an educator and one of the founders of Hindu college. Jatindramohan Tagore lived during the period, 16 May 1831 – 10 January 1908. He was Honorary Secretary of the British Indian Association for many years and elected as its President in 1879 and 1881.
Jatindramohan Tagore was born on 16 May 1831 in Kolkata, then ruled by British. He was born into Pathuriaghata branch of the Tagore family. His grandfather Gopi Mohan Tagore was scion of the Pathuriaghata Tagore family and noted zamindar and philanthropist. He was born as the son of Hara Kumar Tagore, who was a leading land owner, philanthropist, Sanskrit scholar, writer and musician. He assisted Radhakanta Deb in compiling the work - Sabdakalpadrum.
Since childhood days he showed deep interest in literature subjects. He was interested in both English and Bengali languages. He started writing plays in both these languages at a young age. Vidya Sundar Nataka was one of his major plays which received wide acclaim when it got staged. He was also involved with public service, and as an administrator worked for the benefit of famine-stricken farmers in Midnapur.
He became Member of the Legislative Council of Bengal in 1870 and got re-elected two years later. He received the title of 'Raja Bahadur' in 1871 and title of Maharaja in 1877. His contribution towards the establishment of the Mayo Hospital is well-known. He was a patron of arts, music and painting.
