Jatin Pandit Biography

Jatin Pandit is a versatile music composer of present times. He along with his brother Lalit Pandit has given numerable hits to Bollywood during 1990’s and 2000’s. But with the work of Fanaa in 2006, brothers parted due to personal indifferences and now they work separately. They were the most sought music directors during late 90’s and early 2000’s with the separation of Nadeem Shravan. Despite having numerous songs in their kit, they together known by the name ‘Jatin-Pandit’ have never won Filmfare awards. Their best contributions include Dilwale Dulhaniya Le jayenge, Fanaa, Hum Tum, Khiladi, Pyar to hona hi tha, Pyar kiya to darna kya, Khamoshi, Kuch kuch hota hai, Khubsurat, Kabhi khushi kabhi ghum, Ghulam, Jo jeeta wohi sikander and Yes Boss. They are remembered most for the melodious tunes given to Bollywood music giving less preference to western instruments and beats.

Jatin Pandit was born in a musical family. Pandit Jasrat is the uncle of Jatin and Lalit. Aadesh Shrivasthava is his brother in law. Bollywood actresses Sulekshana Pandit and Vijayta Pandit are his sisters. Sulekshana Pandit is a playback singer too. Jatin Pandit associated himself with his brother and together they did the music of Yaara Dildara in the year 1991. The song ‘Kaun hai tum jo’ sung by Abhijeet and Kavitha Krishnamurty was noted. But the pair rise to flame with the song ‘Pehla Nasha’ of Jo jeeta wohi sikander and ‘Waada raha sanam’ of Khiladi in the year 1992. Both the brothers appeared in a song picturation of Jo jeeta wohi sikander too. After that they didn’t look back and went on delivering hits one after the other.   

As music directors, they have been nominated many times for their significant works in Jo jeeta wohi sikander, Kuch kuch hota hai, DDLJ, Khamoshi, Yes Boss, Pyar to hona hi tha, Mohabbatein, Kabhi khushi kabhi gum, Chalte chalte and Sarfarosh. But he was not able to win at least once, though the music has contributed a lot to the success of blockbusters like Kabhi khushi kabhi gum, Jo jeeta wohi sikander, Kuch kuch hota hai and DDLJ. After separation with his brother, Jatin Pandit in concentrated on doing solo compositions though need to be successful yet.
