Jatin Bora Biography

Jatin Bora is an Indian film actor who works in Assamese movies. He has completed 25 years in acting industry. He debut film industry in 1989 and was the most sought-after poster boy of Assamese cinema in the 1990’s. Apart from an established actor, he is also known as a director of Mobile Theatre groups of Assam. Aabahan, Hengul, Ashirbaad, Bhagyadevi, Kohinoor and Itihas are his theater works he directed. His first major success came with Munin Barua's film Hiya Diya Niya, which is regarded as a cult classic. Its commercial success gave ray of hope for the survival of Assamese cinema and the songs - "Nohole porichoy" and "Mitha Mitha Aji Xopunote" became very popular as well. He has also worked in a few television serials. Jatin Bora made his directorial debut with Adhinayak. Jatin Bora married Navanita Sarma, an accomplished singer in 2002.

 

Jatin Bora was born on April 25, 1970 to Sri Gakul Chandra Bora and Premolata Bora, in Kacholukhowa, Nagaon. He studied at Marikalang Prathamik Vidyalaya. Since school days, he participated in cultural activities. He studied Bhaona - the traditional Assamese drama from the cultural meet, Navajyoti Sangha Maina Parijat during his school days. His first stage performance was Lakshminath Bezbaruah’s Mukti at the age of 10. He completed his schooling from Dawson Higher Secondary and Multi-Purpose School. Later he studied at Nagaon GNDG Commerce College and took a diploma in Fine Arts from the famous Kallol Art School in Nagaon. He is a trained musician too and is a ‘Visharad’ in Tabla.

 

His first uncredited appearance was for the movie, Kolahal followed by Uttarkaal (1989) opposite Moloya Goswami. Its success made him a star of Assamese cinema. He also appeared in Doordarshan serials like Deuta, Chandra Talukdar’s Namgharia, Birina Paator Anguthee, Jones Mahalia's Pratighat, Surangor Majere and Ghat-Pratighat during 1990’s. ‘I Killed Him Sir’ in 1993 opened a new world to Bora and there was no turning back till now. He has also been associated with Hengul Theatre and Abahon Theatre also.
