Jasleen Royal Biography

Jasleen Kaur Royal is the full name of Jasleen Royal. She is an independent singer, musician, composer and lyricist from Ludhiana, Punjab. She sings in Punjabi, Hindi as well as in English languages. She entered Bollywood, singing for 2014 movie – Khubsoorat where she rendered her voice for the song - "Preet", composed by Sneha Khanwalkar and lyrics penned by Amitabh Verma. For her debut song "Panchi Ho Jaava" composed by her she won Best Indie Song at the MTV Video Music Awards India 2013. She also sang the song – Badla Badla for 2015 film – Badalpur.

 

She was born in Ludhiana in 1991. After schooling from her hometown she shifted to Delhi, where she completed graduation in commerce from Hindu College. Jasleen doesn’t claim any formal training in music. She gained attention for the first time when she qualified as one of the semifinalists in the first season of India's Got Talent in 2009. She was 18 then. Her versatility to play multiple instruments placed her among the top contestants of the show, where she earned the nickname - 'One woman band'. She is able to play guitar, mouth organ and a tambourine while singing and performing.

 

Her debut track "Panchi Ho Jaava" was released on you tube in 2012. The single was picked up by MTV India to be featured on MTV Roots and later used for “The Dream Project" by MTV. Later she sang many jingles and Bollywood songs as well. She has also performed on several live shows. Before her Bollywood debut, Royal had released three singles - “Panchhi ho javan”, “Mai ni” and “Din shagna da”. She has also performed with National Award-winning musician Swanand Kirkire.
