Jamshed Bharucha Biography 
Jamshed Bharucha is the President of Cooper Union. Earlier he has also served as Senior Vice President of Tufts University and Professor in the Departments of Psychology, Music and in the Medical School's Department of Neuroscience. John Wentworth Professor of Psychological & Brain Sciences and Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Sciences at Dartmouth College are other noted positions held by Bharucha. He researches on the subjects, cognitive psychology and neuroscience. He has published a few assignments on music and its impulse on human brain, mind and soul. A few of his published commentaries include Is Music the Language of Emotions?, Behind the Universal Language, Soundcheck, The Dirty Little Secret About Learning, The Mystery of Music: How it Works in the Brain, Notes and Neurons: In Search of the Common Chorus and Music of the Hemispheres.
Jamshed Bharucha was born in Mumbai as the son of Jal Bharucha, an engineer. His mother Elizabeth Bharucha is a musician from Albany. Jal Bharucha was the first engineer in India to employ computers in structural design. He took a degree in Biopsychology from Vassar College in the year 1978 followed by M.A. in philosophy from Yale University and a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from Harvard University. He had earlier received an Associate’s Diploma in violin performance from Trinity College of Music, London.
Bharucha spent most of his academic career at Dartmouth College. He was the first Indian American to be named dean of a school at an Ivy League institution. He established the Dartmouth Brain Imaging Center and holds a good academic administrator record. He moved from Dartmouth to Tufts in 2002 and became Provost & Senior Vice President. He has been recruited to Ray Jackendoff, Vali Nasr, Nalini Ambady, Gina Kuperberg and many more places. In 2011, he was appointed as The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art.
