Jainendra Jain Biography

Jainendra Jain was a filmmaker and screenwriter of Bollywood, who lived during the period, (4 October 1939 – 23 December 2007. He was best known as a screenwriter and storyteller of Bollywood, famous for the scripts – Bobby, Kalicharan, Sathyam Sivam Sundaram, Sargam, Woh Saat Din, Prem Rog, Kaamchor, Tere Naam, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain, Judaai, Henna etc. During his early days in the 1970s, he was associated with RK Banner, and wrote many scripts for Raj Kapoor, most notably Bobby, Prem Rog, Sathyam Sivam Sundaram etc. His career spanned to more than three decades, and he worked with filmmakers of two generation.

Jainendra Kumar Jain was born on 4 October 1939 in Surat, Gujarat. He started his career as a journalist before foraying into films. He worked with The Times of India for a decade before joining Bollywood in mid-1970s. Since then he co-scripted many movies till 2000s. He tasted success in all decades as a writer. Among his last scripts, Tere Naam starring Salman Khan was a super hit. During his last years, he wrote many scripts for Raj Kanwar, such as Andaaz, Daag and Judai and their collaboration remained successful. During his early years, he worked with Raj Kapoor with most of his directorial ventures throughout 1970s till mid-1980s, and most of the movies remained commercially successful.

Jainendra Kumar Jain also worked with filmmakers - Bapu, K. Vishwanath, Subhash Ghai, Satish Kaushik etc, delivering hits. Apart from Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia, many actors marked their screen debut with movies co-scripted by Jainendra Jain. Jaya Prada, Khushboo, Padmini Kolhapure, Lara Dutta, Priyanka Chopra and Anil Kapoor are among those. He produced and directed one Bollywood film, Jaanoo in 1985.
