Jaimala Biography

Jaimala is an established Kannada actress. She has also produced a few movies like Thaayi Saaheba and Aaj Ka Ye Ghar. She became the centre of the cyclone when she claimed that she touched the Lord Ayyappa idol in Sabarimala, long back in 1970’s. She claimed that she had touched the idol and prayed for her late husband's health at Sabarimala in Kerala state in April 1987. As fertile are barred from the temple it gave rise a lot of hot discussions in 2006, when she claimed so. As an actress, she was one of the most sought actresses during 1980’s and owns numerous commercial hits in her name. Giri Kanye, Shankar Guru, Balak, Spy in Rome, Aaj Ka Ye Ghar, Sampoorna Teerth Yatra, Love and Murder and Harishchandra Taramati are her major hits.

Jaimala was born on February 28, 1959, in Dakshina Kannada in an agricultural family. Her father G Omaiah is an agriculturist and mother Kamalamma, a homemaker. She has 7 siblings; one being a brother. Her first marriage was with Kannada Film actor Tiger Prabhakar. Now she is married to cinematographer H M Ramachandra. Her daughter Soundarya is also an actress. Jaimala has been one of the leading actresses during 1980’s.

As a producer, her first movie is Thaayi Saaheba. The movie was directed by noted film director Girish Kasaravalli and it won a National award. Jaimala received Special Jury mention at award function. Thuttoori is another movie produced by Jaimala, which won both National and State Government awards. It was a movie for kids. She is an active member of Kannada film producers association and serves as its treasurer. In 2008 Jayamala became the first woman president of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce. She is the only actress in the Indian film industry to be conferred a doctorate for writing a thesis.
