Jai Ganesh Biography

Jai Ganesh was a veteran actor associated with Tamil cinema, known for essaying character roles. He has essayed father’s and villain’s roles in many movies. As an actor he is best known for his roles in Aval Oru Thodar Kathai and Attukara Alamelu. For the films like Thaayillamal Naan Illai and Athisaya Piravi, he played negative roles onscreen. Aval Oru Thodar Kathai was his debut film, and still he is best remembered for his debut role. He passed away in 2001 battling with cancer, aged 54.

Jai Ganesh, also pronounced as Jaiganesh was born in the year 1946. He was a stage artist prior to his entry in cinema in the mid-1970s. He was introduced into the film industry by ace Tamil director K. Balachander in Aval Oru Thodar Kathai (1974), a landmark movie of the director’s career which introduced a string of newcomers including Sujatha, Jai Ganesh, Supriya and  Fatafat Jayalaxmi. Jai Ganesh portrayed the lead role of Murty in the film, which is one of the favourite movies of many leading big names of the industry. Since then he appeared as lead hero, side role, villain and character artist in a series of films.

As an actor, his successful films include - Neeya, Pilot Premnath, Vattathukkul Sathuram and Vanakathukuriya Kathaliyae & Azhage Unnai Aradhikkiren. He has acted in more than 100 films and several tele serials. Many of his roles still remain memorable. His last movie was the Sarath Kumar starrer, `Mayee'. Jai Ganesh was undergoing treatment for cancer for a long time, and he passed away on 11 February 2001. He was only 54 then, and was fully active in the industry till his death. Ennai Thalatta Varuvala posthumously released in 2003. He was survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
