Jacob Sahaya Kumar Aruni Biography

Jacob Sahaya Kumar Aruni was a celebrity chef from Tamil Nadu. He was known for his authentic South Indian cuisines and promoter of South Indian cooking. Aruni created a new Guinness World Record for the longest individual barbecue cooking marathon at Chennai on March 14 and 15, 2010 where he barbecued for 24 hours and five minutes, cooking a total of 485 dishes. Unfortunately Jacob Aruni died suffering from a heart attack two years later on 4 November 2012 at the Apollo First Med Hospital in Chennai. He was only 38 years old. In SUN TV, he used to present a cookery show, Aaha Enna Rusi.

Jacob Aruni was born in Uthamapalayam, Tamil Nadu in a family of doctors. Jacob took Degree in Physics from American College, Madurai in 1995. He was greatly inspired by his mother’s cooking and started cooking at the age of 14. He inherited his mother’s cooking talents and hence decided to study catering as a serious subject. Later he worked at many institutions as catering faculty too. He was also a dedicated food historian and spice collector. He became head of the Department of Catering at Cherraan's Arts Science College, Kangeyam and later its Principal. He was serving as the director of the Catering Department at the Sankara College of Science and Commerce in Coimbatore while he died.

Jacob has received appreciation from former Indian President Abdul Kalam for his extensive research on ancient cuisines of South India. He conducted researches on Indian dishes and was interested in collecting spices. He has also served as a consultant for many leading restaurants not only in India, but also abroad. He was also a visiting chef. He owned a restaurant "Jacob's kitchen" in Chennai which serves only traditional dishes. Jacob created a Guinness world record for the longest individual barbecue marathon in 2010. On 4 November 2012 Jacob died at the Apollo First Med Hospital in Chennai. He was a bachelor.
