J. R. Gangaramani Biography

J. R. Gangaramani is an entrepreneur and businessman, who gained success in construction business in gulf countries like UAE, Saudi Arabia & Oman. He is a Partner of Al Fara'a Group, founded in the year 1980. Under his building arm- Al Fara’s General Contracting, he is currently associated with government and private projects worth more than AED1bn. He is a recipient of numerous honours and awards including Padma Shri by government of India in 2010, Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, Pazhassiraja Puraskar (Vyavasaya Ratna) and Global Indian Achiever of the Year. His name is listed among ‘Top 5 richest Indians in Gulf construction’.

 

Jawaharlal Gangaramani was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He graduated in Structural Engineering from Bombay University in 1971, and started his career in Mumbai. He moved to Dubai in 1974 to work as an engineer. He got involved in the construction of Dubai World Trade Centre. Following his split with his employer in 1980, he joined hands with Adel Saleh, a UAE businessperson to start their own construction business. Al Fara'a General Contracting Company was originally founded by Adel Saleh, and Gangaramani joined it.

 

Within a short span, their construction business earned huge profits and expanded into a conglomerate, Al Fara'a Group, with 11 companies and 18,000 employees. Their construction company now owns branches at UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman. He is currently counted among the richest Indians in the Persian Gulf, and his name frequently features in the list of influential businessmen in gulf countries. Apart from business, he is also known as a philanthropist who established two institutions, Al Fara'a Foundation and R. P. Gangaramani Charitable Trust to properly channel his charity activities.
