J. A. R. Anand Biography 
J. A. R. Anand was a well-known character artist associated with Malayalam cinema in the black & white era. Anand is best known for the roles he played in Neelakuyil, Nellu, Chemmeen, Snehaseema, Rarichan Enna Pauran and Randidangazhi. During his life time he got opportunity to share screen space with some of the legendary actors of Malayalam cinema like Thikkurussy Sukumaran Nair, Sathyan, Prem Nazir etc. Noted actress Sabitha Anand, a heroine of 1980s is his daughter. Anand was a well-established theatre actor who made noted appearances in movies later. As a theatre artist, he worked in plays staged in 6 different languages.
His real name is Abdu Rahman and he belonged to a Muslim family at Mattancherry, Kochi. He was born as eldest son, to Jacoob and Haleemaumma. He had 5 siblings. Later he got married Khadeeja and the couple had 11 children including Sabitha Anand, who established herself as a successful lead actress later. Anand started off his career with theatre, before he switched over to movies. As a stage actor he was first seen in Pachakodi, followed by many more belonging to Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Urdu, English and Gujarati languages.
As a film actor, he marked his debut with Malayalam’s iconic film, Neelakkuyil (1954). After that he got busy with theatre. He returned to silver screen only in the 1960s, and was active in the industry till early 1980s. After that he reduced his work. Poomukhapadiyil Ninneyumkathu (1986) was his last release. He passed away in Chennai in the year 1992. As a film actor some of his noted performances include – Chuzhi, Mudiyanaaya Puthran, Ammaye Kaanaan, Oraal Koodi Kallanaayi, Nellu and many more.
