Iniya Biography

Iniya is an Indian film actress who has worked and is working in the movies of Malayalam and Tamil film industries. Her original name is Shruthi Sawant. She has performed in many telefilms and television series as a child artist and reentered film industry in 2005 as an adult artist.

She was born at Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala and has one brother and one sister. She showed her face for the first time in media through the telefilm Koottilekku.  She was only eight years old at that time and was studying class four. She then appeared in some teleseries like Ormai and iSree Guruvayoorappan. The former one was produced by K. K. Rajeev and the later one by Vayalar Madhavan Kutty.

The year 2005 was an unforgettable and eventful year for Iniya. She was the happy winner of the Miss. Trivandrum title of that year and this marked her entry into modeling industry. She started appearing in many television advertisements. She started her acting career in the lead role and appeared in many art films that fetched awards. The film Saira directed by Dr. Biju and the films Dalamarmarangal and Umma directed by Vijayakrishnan are some notable examples of these films.

She has great interest in performing in films that has a message. One good example for such a film that focuses on child abuse that was directed by Rajesh Touchriver named The Sacred Face. She entered Tamil film industry in 2010 through the film Padagasalai. In the film of Mysskin, Yuddham Sei, she played the role of the sister to the character of Cheran.

It was in the year 2011 that she changed her film name to Iniya. Then she got a chance to exhibit her skills in the female lead character in the film Vaagai Sooda Vaaby A. Sarkunam. Her natural and expressive face won her lots of positive reviews. She paired with Arulnithi in the film Mouna Guru in the role of a medical student. The director Bharathiraja was very impressed with her performance in the film Vaagai Sooda Vaa and gave her chance to act in his film Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum but later this was changed.
