Indrani Haldar Biography

Indrani Haldar is a National award winning actress of Bengal. She won the best actress award for the role played in Bengali movie, Dhahan in the year 1997. The film is based on Suchitra Bhattacharya's story of the same name and she played the role of Jhinuk in Rituparno Ghosh directed movie. She shared the award with her co-actress Rituparna Sengupta for the same movie, only a single incident in National award section when the same category award shared between two actresses for exactly the same movie. She gives equal preference to movies as well as television serials and is equally successful too. In 2012, she debut Bollywood with the movie – Strings of passion.

 

Indrani is also known as Mamoni. She was born in Kolkata on January 6, 1971 as the daughter of Sanjoy Haldar. Her school studies was completed at Multipurpose Girl’s School and graduation from Jogamaya Devi College. She received formal training in classical dance from Thankumoni Kutti. Though she got engaged with her Dahan co-star, Sanjeeb Dasgupta, the relationship broke and later she married Bhaskar Roy, a pilot. It was her second marriage too.

 

She started acting as a child artist for the television serial Tero Parban. She has also acted in a few Bengali tele films - Pinzor and Prashchito. She has worked in both Hindi and Bengali television serials. She has acted in television serials like - Maryada: Lekin Kab Tak?, Purbo Purush, Fakir, Tero Parban, Hamari shaadi, Bahanno and Tamasharekha.  She has also hosted celebrity talk show - Sange Indrani on Tara TV. As an actress, she has worked in Bengali movies like Jeebon Pakhi, Jara Brishtitey Bhijechhilo, Faltu, Angshumaner Chhobi, Charachar, Apon Holo Pawr and Ebong Tumi Aar Aami. She won BFJA - Best Actress Award for Kaancher Prithibi (1993) and Charachar (1995). She has also won Best actress award at the Madrid International Film Festival for Jara Bristite Bhijechhilo (2008) and Patton Kalakar Award for roles in Kuasha Jakhan (1997).
